Two of them are printed in full colour straight onto the face, and two carry colour that bonds into the surface, so a photograph works as well as bold lettering. A yard sign does one job well: it tells the street something. Designing a yard sign that reads from the street
A yard sign is read from a distance, often by someone walking or driving past, so it follows different rules from a print on a wall. Keep the words few and the letters large, put dark lettering on a light background or the reverse, and crop a photo tight on the face rather than showing the whole room. Let any background colour run past the edge of the sign so a trim never leaves a thin unprinted line.

- Is there a difference between a yard sign and a lawn sign on this shelf?
- Mostly the name. The plastic yard sign, the two other yard signs and the lawn sign are all signs for the lawn with your design on the face. Compare the size options and the decoration on each product page, then pick the one that suits the spot where it will stand.
- Can a custom yard sign carry a graduation or baby photo?
- Yes. Every sign on this shelf takes a full-colour photograph, so a graduation portrait, a newborn or a pet works as well as lettering. Crop the picture close to the face, because a yard sign is seen from across the yard, and look at the proof at phone size before you approve it.
- How many words fit on a yard sign before it stops being readable?
- There is no fixed limit, but a sign seen from the sidewalk is easiest to read with a name, a short line and perhaps a date. If the proof looks busy on a phone screen it will look busy from the street, so cut words before you shrink the letters.
- What makes a good business logo file for a yard sign?
- An original logo file, ideally a PNG with a transparent background, rather than a screenshot from a website. Add one short line such as an opening date or a web address in a note, and check that the logo edge looks crisp on the proof.
- Can I get matching yard signs for a team, a street party or several branches?

- Why might white in my design look different on some yard signs?
- Two of the signs carry colour that bonds into the surface, and that method adds no white ink: white areas in your file show the sign itself. On a white sign that reads as white, but a cream or grey panel behind your lettering has to be part of the artwork.
