Custom Posters With Your Photo or Artwork

A custom poster puts your photo, artwork, map or slogan on paper or board without a frame, so the choice on this shelf is the surface and how it will hang.

Paper posters come in matte, gloss, satin, semi-glossy, archival matte and uncoated finishes, in vertical and horizontal formats, and as rolled posters. Beyond these there is an indoor and outdoor silk poster for a dorm, a studio or a covered porch, and foam board, a rigid mounted print that stands on an easel or leans on a shelf. Prices run €17.47–€22.99 depending on the style. A poster suits a travel or wedding photograph, a gig or event poster, a nursery print, a classroom chart, a shop window or a print of your own artwork. Upload one image; we set it on the sheet and email you a proof, and nothing is made until you approve it. If it should arrive behind a frame, the framed poster shelf is the neighbour to this one.

Matte, gloss, satin or silk: choosing a poster finish

Matte has no shine, so it keeps glare off a poster hung opposite a window or under bright lights, and it suits text-heavy designs, maps and charts. Gloss and semi-glossy reflect light and give a photograph deeper colour and contrast, at the cost of reflections. Satin sits between the two. Archival matte suits artwork and photographs you plan to keep, and uncoated paper has the plain, natural feel of a printed page.

Whichever paper you choose, the file matters as much as the finish: the guide to preparing artwork for printed paper covers resolution, bleed and the safe area that keeps words clear of the trim.

Rolled, mounted or outdoor posters

A rolled poster is ready for pins, tape, clips or a frame you already own. Foam board needs no wall at all, which makes it the choice for a presentation, a welcome board at an event or a shop counter. The indoor and outdoor silk poster is a water- and scratch-resistant paper with a silk finish, and the one style here named for hanging outside as well as in.

For something more permanent, a framed poster arrives behind a frame and a canvas print puts the image on canvas. Outdoors, a flag or a sign takes the same artwork further, and a photo calendar keeps a run of pictures on the wall all year.

Custom Posters With Your Photo or Artwork — common questions

Is a foam board print the same as a poster?
No. A poster is a printed sheet that you roll, pin or frame. A foam board print is mounted on a light, rigid board, so it stands on an easel or leans on a shelf with no frame, which suits presentations, events and shop displays.
Should a custom poster be matte or gloss?
Matte for a room with windows or bright lights, because it does not throw back glare, and for posters heavy with text. Gloss or semi-glossy for a photograph you want saturated and punchy, hung where light will not hit it straight on. Satin sits between the two.
What is a silk poster?
A poster on semi-gloss paper with a silk finish that resists water and scratches. On this shelf it is the indoor and outdoor silk poster, the style named for use outside as well as in, which makes it the one for a patio wall, a covered porch or an event tent.
Does a custom poster come with a frame?
No. The posters on this shelf come unframed, from rolled paper posters to the rigid foam board print. For a poster that arrives already framed, in a wood or black frame, choose from the framed poster shelf linked above.
Can a phone photo be printed as a large poster?
Aim for about 300 DPI at the printed size, the figure the printing guide linked above recommends. A large poster therefore needs a large original, so a full-resolution photo straight from the phone holds up far better than a cropped or messaged copy, which may only suit a smaller sheet.
Is an art print the same as a poster?
Both are printed sheets for a wall, and the words overlap. For artwork you mean to keep, such as a painting, an illustration or a print of your own, the archival matte and museum-grade fine art papers on this shelf are the natural choice.
