Custom Puzzles With Your Photo or Message

A custom puzzle turns a family photo, a wedding picture, a pet or a collage of holiday snaps into an evening at the table, and a puzzle with a message in the picture makes a proposal, a pregnancy announcement or a birthday surprise that appears piece by piece.

How personalizing works

  2. Send a logo, photo or noteUpload a file, write us a note, or both.

Same logo on every piece: order one or many, no minimum.

The shelf runs from a kids' puzzle of 30 pieces up to 1000 and 1014 pieces, with 96, 110, 120, 252, 500 and 520 pieces between, and includes a jigsaw puzzle that comes with a tin to keep the pieces in. Prices run £17.60–£34.45 depending on the piece count. Upload your photo and add a name, a date or a line of text in a note if you want one; we design the puzzle and email you a proof. Nothing is made until you approve that proof, so you can check that a face is centred and a message kept clear of the edge first.

Choosing a piece count

The kids' puzzle has 30 pieces, a first jigsaw for a toddler with a picture of the family or a favourite pet. Between 96 and 520 pieces sits the puzzle for an evening or a weekend afternoon, and the right pick for a wedding, an anniversary or a proposal puzzle that should be finished the same night. At 1000 and 1014 pieces it becomes an adult challenge. The jigsaw puzzle with tin comes with a tin to store the pieces and to give the puzzle as a gift.

Counts vary slightly from puzzle to puzzle: one comes as 500 or 1000 pieces, another as 520 or 1014, because each is cut to its own grid of rows and columns.

Picking a photo that makes a good puzzle

A puzzle is a pleasure to build when every part of the picture is different: faces, colour, texture and edges give each piece something to match. Wide areas of plain sky, sea or wall turn into stretches of near-identical pieces, which is slow going at 1000 pieces. A collage of several photos makes a more varied puzzle. Start from the original, full-resolution file, keep faces away from the very edge, and check the proof. The guide to how dye bonds into a coated surface explains how the picture becomes part of the puzzle face instead of sitting on top of it.

More gifts from the same photo

The picture on the puzzle can also go on a custom mug, a photo calendar, a custom ornament or a keychain, or be printed for the wall as one of the custom photo prints.

Custom Puzzles With Your Photo or Message — common questions

Why do custom puzzle piece counts differ, such as 500 and 520?
Each puzzle is cut to a grid of rows and columns, and the count is whatever that grid makes. On this shelf one puzzle offers 500 or 1000 pieces and another 520 or 1014, so read the count listed on the puzzle you choose rather than assuming a round number.
Is a 500-piece custom puzzle too easy for an adult?
It depends on the picture more than the count. A 500-piece puzzle of a busy, colourful photo is an evening of work; the same count with a big sky or a plain wall in it is slower going. For a real challenge, the 1000 and 1014-piece puzzles are the adult end of this shelf.
Can I hide a proposal or announcement message in a custom puzzle?
Yes. Add the words in a note, such as a question, a due date or a birthday line, and we set them over the photo so the message comes together as the pieces go in. Ask in the note for it to sit towards the middle of the picture, away from the edge pieces, so it shows late rather than early.
Which custom puzzle suits a toddler?
The kids' puzzle, with 30 pieces. A single clear subject works well at that size: a parent's face, the family dog, or the child's own name in big letters over a bright background.
Does a custom puzzle come in a box or a tin?
The jigsaw puzzle with tin comes with a tin for the pieces, which makes it ready to give and easy to store between builds. For the other puzzles on this shelf, check each product page for its packaging.
Can a custom puzzle be made from several photos?
Yes. Build a collage in any photo app first, then upload it as one picture. A collage gives every area of the puzzle a different subject, which makes the pieces easier to sort and the finished puzzle a record of a whole year or a whole trip.
